night running summary
I love running, the thrill, the endorfins, especially during the colder parts of the year. But it gets tricky. The days are shorter and it gets dark guite early. But this doesn’t stop me… what I don’t like however is the added hazards of darkness and winter. Such as reduced visibility, puddles, uneven surface, snow, ice, and so on. That’s why I avoid hitting the road without a reliable headlight when running in dark. The headlight illuminates the path ahead, allowing me to see any potential obstacles or hazards in my way, like icy patches or snowbanks. And puddles. I hate running with wet feet. What is even more important, it also makes me visible to others, reducing the risk of being hit by scooters, bikers… whoever.
All the headlights (and blinking red lights) I’ve used over the past few years had their cons and pros and ultimatly I’ve ended with the two of the follwoing. Petzl Actik Headlight and Kiprun Red Flashing Run Light. Cheap, light, realible. I am sharing both pros and cons below, and links where you can read more reviews and buy them.

Petzl Actik Headlight

Cons:
- battery life is somewhat limited on high setting, althoug I usually use a medium beam and am satisfied with it
- the headlamp can be challenging to turn on and off with gloves on
- the headband adjustment can be slightly finicky
Kiprun Red Flashing Run Light

- provides visibility lighting for runners at the back
- lightweight with attachment to ant cloth/strap
